Sligo win Connacht Invitational Plate



Sligo women’s rugby team won the 10-a-side Connacht Invitational Plate at Heffernan Park in Ballina on Sunday with an impressive 40-17 win over Westport.

Having won the Invitational Shield the previous season, Sligo were determined to go one better and secure the Connacht Plate this year.

A strong second-half performance was key to the win.

Jamie Bowes’ side ran in eight tries over the course of the game with Aisling Feely, Emma Cox, Emma Cullen (2), Sophie Kinghan. Cliodhna O’Sullivan, Victoria Lee andRachel Enright the scorers.

The Connacht Invitational Plate was presented to Emma Cullen, captain of the Sligo Women’s team by Liz Brady, Head of Women’s Rugby in Connacht and President of Westport.

Sligo will resume their Connacht Women’s League campaign next Sunday (Dec 4th) when Corrib RFC come to Hamilton Park in Strandhill.

Sligo are currently unbeaten in the league and sit top of the table.
