Strand Celtic hit Tipp opponents for six



Sligo-Leitrim’s sole team still standing in the FAI junior cup, Strand Celtic, reached the fifth round of the competition on Sunday with an impressive 6-0 win at home to Clodiagh Rangers of Tipperary.

Leo Doherty and Niall McDermot both scored twice with Aaron O’Boyle and Fiachra Cogan also on target as Strand booked their place in the last 32 of junior soccer’s premier cup competition nationally.

 

The wet and windy conditions made flowing football difficult but Stand controlled the game for most of the 90 minutes and scored in the third minute of the match through Doherty.

The same player added a second later in the half with Fiachra Cogan and Aaron O’Boyle also on target to have Strand leading 4-0 at half-time.

As the weather detiorated significantly, two more goals from substitute Niall McDermot, one from the penalty spot, put the tie beyond the visitors reach.
