Fermanagh MLA calls for scrapping of Troubles Legacy Bill following British soldier manslaughter conviction

A Fermanagh MLA says the Manslaughter conviction of a former British solider in relation to the death of Aidan McAnespie in 1988 should lead to the scrapping of the Troubles Legacy Bill.

David Holden was earlier today convicted of manslaughter of Aidan McAnespie

The 23 year old was un-armed and shot after passing a military checkpoint in County Tyrone.
He had been on his way to a Gaelic football match when he was shot in the back.

David Holden becomes the first veteran to be convicted of a historical offence since the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.

Sinn Féin MLA Jemma Dolan says today’s ruling provides ample evidence why the controversial Northern Ireland Troubles Legacy Bill’s being proposed by the British Government should be scrapped.
