Complaint made against MacSharry over ‘verbal attack’ in Dáil

A complaint has been made against Independent TD Marc MacSharry who has been accused of launching a “verbal attack” on Leas-Cheann Comhairle Catherine Connolly in the Dáil this week.

Independent TD for Donegal Thomas Pringle has written to the Dáil’s Committee on Parliamentary Privileges and Oversight describing Deputy MacSharry’s actions in the Dail as “uncalled for” and of a “personalised nature”.

On Wednesday, Deputy MacSharry claimed that he was being discriminated against when it came to speaking rights.

Deputy MacSharry accused Leas-Cheann Comhairle Catherine Connolly of “consistently” slotting him in as one of the last three speakers.

He was asked to resume his seat several times by Deputy Connolly and when he failed to do so, the Dáil was subsequently adjourned, with Ms Connolly ruling that Mr MacSharry was “completely and utterly out of order.”
