Local TD says increasing VAT hospitality rate will drive business north of the border



A Sligo Leitrim TD has rowed in behind calls for the VAT rate in the hospitality sector to remain at 9% describing it as a crucial intervention for the North West.

 

As part of the Budget, the VAT rate for the sector is to revert to 13.5%.

 

Speaking in the Dail, Independent TD Marian Harkin says retaining the rate at 9% would be hugely significant for the North West.

 

Deputy Harkin warned that tourism businesses in the region will flounder when the strength of sterling is also taken into account:
