Sligo Rovers lose 2-1 to Galway Utd in friendly

Sligo Rovers continued their preparations for the resumption of their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign with a friendly game against Johnny Caulfield’s Galway United at the Showgrounds on Friday afternoon.

Galway won the game 2-1 through goals from Rob Manley and Wilson Waweru.

Aidan Keena netted for Rovers in a match which saw Leitrim’s Eanna Clancy start at centre-half for the home team – although Clancy came off with an injury in the closing stages of the game.

Richard Brush took Luke McNicholas’ place in goal as the Swinford native was on Republic of Ireland under-21 international duty in Dublin on Friday.

The fixture also marked the return of midfielder Seamie Keogh following a lengthy injury lay-off.

The Grange man was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Recent German signing Fabrice Hartmann was, apparently, also eligible to play as the game wasn’t a competitive fixture.
