Building costs in the north west have witnessed the greatest increase over the past year

The costs associated with building have increased more in the north west than anywhere else in the country over the past twelve months.

Housing-building costs have increased by an average of 21 per cent nationally over the past year.

The biggest rise was in the north west, at 26 per cent, while the lowest was in Dublin, at 14 per cent.

That’s according to the latest House Rebuilding Guide, published by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland.

Kevin Brady, from the group, explains the reason for the sharp increase in the northwest.
