A Leitrim Councillor is warning of the damage to the environment that the local tourism sector the dumping of plastics is having across the north west region.
Calls are being made on the environmental section of Leitrim county council to investigate the growing issues of plastics been dumped in rivers.
The issue is expected to be discussed at next Monday’s meeting of the local authority.
Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor Sean McDermott says that fish stocks which are at risk with many of these rivers flowing into nearby lakes.
He says as well as environmental concerns there are also huge implications for the local tourism sector.
