Sligo Councillor calls for ‘CycleBus’ scheme to be rolled out to schools

A Sligo Councillor is encouraging schools to actively engage in providing children with the options of walking of cycling safely to school.

Sligo Strandhill Councillor Sinead Maguire has made the calls after it was claimed recently that better infrastructure is needed to encourage more children to cycle or walk to school.

A report on physical activity for children and teenagers found that many are not getting the recommended levels of daily exercise.

Two years ago a ‘CycleBus’ initiative was launched in Strandhill where parents and children cycle to school together.

Local Councillor Sinead Maguire has urged other schools to consider introducing this scheme for students.
