Avoid inland fishing as heat wave continues is the recommendation by local Sligo Business owner

This week’s high temperatures combined with lower than average rainfall, has resulted in a high risk of fish kills due to thermal stress and reduced oxygen levels in lakes and rivers.

David Smith owner of Barton Smiths says we are very lucky here in the northwest with access to both inland and sea fishing available and that for now he recommends those looking to fish to find a safe place on the coast.

David’s concerns have been echoed by Inland Fisheries Ireland who have also advised for a cease on inland fishing until water levels raise again in the coming days with rain expected again next week.
