Curry and Castleconnor claim Sligo league titles

Curry won Sunday’s Furey’s Coaches Division 2 league final at Markievicz Park in dramatic fashion as a late Tommy Stenson goal helped the south Sligo side record a one-point win over Bunninadden, on a final scoreline of 2-17 to 3-13.

Bunninadden appeared to be heading for victory as they led by 3-13 to 1-15 in the closing stages with Curry also down to 14 players following a red card for their county player Alan Reilly.

However, 14-man Curry rallied to score 1-2 in the closing stages with Tommy Stenson’s goal crucial to the win.

Both teams are already promoted to Division 1 next season – but Curry go up as league champions.

Elsewhere, Castleconnor made the best use of the strong breeze at Scarden in the opening half as they racked up a 0-10 to 0-2 half-time advantage in their Division 3 final against St Michael’s.

While the Ballintogher men did rally with the wind at their backs in the second-half, Castleconnor had just enough in hand two win by two points.

Division 2 final
Curry 2-17 Bunninadden 3-13

Division 3 final
Castleconnor 0-12 St Michael’s 1-7.
