Government turning their backs on rural Ireland again – McDermott



A Leitrim Councillor says funding being provided for the refurbishment of derelict houses in towns as opposed to those situated rurally is another example of the government turning their backs on rural Ireland.

 

Manorhamilton MD Councillor Sean McDermott earlier this year alerted the Minister of State at the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Peter Burke to the presence of such buildings throughout Leitrim.

 

However the Fine Gael Councillor says that no action is being taken when it comes to providing funding for the renovation of such homes.

 

Speaking to Ocean FM Cllr McDermott says these houses should be identified for future family homes as opposed to holiday destinations:
