Footpath works taking place near the local primary school in Grange have stopped.
It was expected that works funded under the Active Travel Scheme would have resulted in footpaths installed on the bridge.
There was concern locally on the narrowing of bridge which would effectively render it a single lane and protests were staged at the site earlier this week.
The Contractor carrying out the works has now informed Sligo County Council that due to what is being described as ‘persistent and unauthorized entrance’ by the public to the Site is causing interference and obstruction they have been advised to cease Works for Health and Safety reasons.
A statement released by the Local Authority in Sligo added that the Contractor will make the Works Area safe, before leaving the site.
