Donegal TD calls on AIB to give guarantees on future of local branches



Sinn Fein’s Finance Spokesperson and Donegal TD Pearse Doherty is demanding guarantees from AIB that they won’t revisit plans to withdraw cash services from any of its branches.

 

It’s after the bank did a u-turn today and scrapped plans to make 70 branches cashless.

 

It follows a public backlash over the move, which a government backbencher says would have ‘finished’ rural Ireland.

 

There are now calls for the Central Bank, the government and the banks themselves to consider the impact of such decisions on vulnerable people in the future.

 

Speaking to Oceanfm news, Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty says the bank must give reassurances that all branches and services are safeguarded into the future:
