Rovers beaten 2-0 at home by UCD

Goals from Donal Higgins in the first half and Dara Keane in the second gave bottom-of-the-table a 2-0 win against a poor Sligo Rovers in Sunday evening’s re-arranged SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game at the Showgrounds.

Rovers made four changes from the side which beat Bala Town on penalties in Thursday’s Europa Conference League tie, with Luke McNicolas replacing Ed McGinty in goals.

But, in truth, Rovers struggled to cope with UCD’s attacking play with Higgins slotting home the opener from close range in the 23rd minute.

Rovers had the majority of the possession and chances but were unable to take any of them.

Dara Keane fired home a fine second goal midway through the second-half and UCD were reasonably comfortable at the finish.

There were no excuses from Rovers manager John Russell when he spoke to reporters after the game:

Meanwhile at Finn Park, Derry City moved up to second in the table, coming from behind to beat Finn Harps in injury time 2-1.

SSE Airtricity League Premier Division results
Sligo Rovers 0 UCD 2
Finn Harps 1 Derry City 2.
