Sligo Leitrim TD calls for more measures to deter aggravated burglaries



A Sligo Leitrim TD says tougher sentences for those found guilty of aggravated burglary will not deter those who engage in such crimes committing offences.

 

Deputy Martin Kenny was commenting following two violent attacks in Carlow and Tyrone in recent weeks while locally Skreen farmer Tom Niland suffered a violent attack earlier this year.

 

The Sinn Fein justice spokesperson says Ireland’s rural crime is relatively low compared to other European Countries.

 

The Leitrim TD says a greater emphasis should be placed on Community policing and installing greater technology at major junctions:
