Harkin reiterates calls on government to introduce targeted supports for low income earners

A Sligo Leitrim TD is calling on the government to introduce targeted measures to protect those on lower income and living in rural areas.

Independent TD Marian Harkin says the rising costs of fuel prices is continuing to disproportionately  impact workers on lower income and those living rurally in areas such as the north west that cannot avail of public transport.

Calls have already been made on the Government to impose price controls on petrol, diesel and home heating oil.

A new report from Grant Thornton today shows people on lower incomes and those in rural Ireland are hit hardest by high fuel prices.

Speaking to ocean FM Deputy Harkin says the government have to act before the budget
