Cath Lab services to cease at Sligo University Hospital today



The Dáil has heard calls for urgent clarity in relation to the long term future of cardiac services at Sligo University Hospital.

 

The mobile Cath Lab service at the facility is to cease from today (Thursday) with patients now having to travel to Galway or Dublin for treatment.

 

The mobile unit had only been operating two days a week despite the HSE’s North West Cardiology Review Group recommending the provision of a full time Cath Lab at the hospital back in 2013.

 

Yesterday, Sligo Leitrim TD’s Marc MacSharry and Martin Kenny raised the issue in the Dáil.

 

Both Deputies asked for a commitment from Government to the provision of the service:

 

 

 

 

Responding Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath says he will consult with Health Minister Stephen Donnelly on the matter:
