Andy Moran has agreed to extend his tenure as Leitrim senior football manager – in a move which will reassure and delight the county’s supporters in equal measure.
Mayo native Moran took on the Leitrim role last October for a two-year term and guided the team to a solid fourth place finish in Division 4 of the league as well as championship victories over London and Antrim.
The resignation of James Horan this week as Mayo manager had fuelled speculation that Moran might be lured back to his home county.
However, a Leitrim GAA statement issued on Wednesday night confirmed that Moran has agreed to remain in charge up until the end of the 2024 season.
The statement said: “We are delighted to announce that Andy Moran has accepted the terms of this recommendation, subject to its acceptance at the County Committee meeting, and we look forward to the continued progress of the Leitrim Senior Footballers over the next two years.”
