Tributes paid to Donegal GAA’s 1992 team chaplain

There’ve been warm tributes paid Fr Brian Quinn, team chaplain to Donegal’s 1992 All-Ireland winning gaelic football team, who has died at the age 64.

Fr Quinn, a native of Laghey, was parish priest of the Church of the Irish Martyrs in Letterkenny.

He had recently celebrated 40 years in the priesthood.

Former Donegal football manager Brian McEniff brought Fr Quinn in as the senior team’s chaplain during the county’s victorious All-Ireland championship run 30 years ago.

“We developed a great friendship and he had a great friendship with the squad when we won the All-Ireland,” said McEniff.

“He came on holidays with us (the team) and celebrated mass for us on the feast of the Epiphany on the 6th of January.

“He’ll be badly missed and will be an awful loss to his parish in Letterkenny and to the GAA as well”.
