Tir Chonaill AC athletes shine in Santry

Tir Chonaill Athletic Club’s Kelly McGrory produced an excellent run to win the women’s 400 metres title at the Irish Life Health National Senior Track & Field Championships in Santry on Sunday evening.

McGrory’s time of 57.22 seconds saw her finish ahead of Nessa Millet – with another Tir Chonaill athlete, Lucy McGlynn, who’s a student at Colaiste Colmcille in Ballyshannon, finishing third to take bronze.

Those medals followed an excellent walk by clubmate Siobhan Doherty in the women’s 5000 metres final.

Doherty took silver behind winner Katie Veale (Waterford) with Sligo AC 18-year-old old Ruth Monaghan claiming bronze.

Another Tir Chonaill AC athlete, Conal Mahon, leaped to gold in the men’s Triple Jump.

Mahon clinched victory on a countback following his final attempt.

Finn Valley’s Mark English regained the men’s 800 metres crown with an impressive victory over last year’s winner John Fitzsimmons – the Donegal man winning in a time of 1:48:46secs.

English’s clubmate, Sommer Lecky, regained the women’s high jump title, clearing 1.79 metres in Sunday’s final.
