Medals galore for local school athletes at Tailteann Games



Several Sligo and Donegal athletes were among the medal winners at Friday’s Tailteann Schools Interprovincial Games in Tullamore.

Patrick Hyland from St Attracta’s Community School in Tubbercurry won gold in the boys 3000 metres gold.

Summerhill College’s Joe Campbell won an impressive boys 400m sprint final.

He later helped Connacht win team silver in the 4 x 400 metres relay – in a quartet which also included Cian Flynn of St Attracta’s.

Daragh Mulrooney from Jesus & Mary Secondary School, Enniscrone, was an impressive winner of the boys 3000m final.

Tir Chonaill Athletic’s Club’s Fintan Dewhirst won gold in the boys 400m hurdles, running in the singlet of St Columba’s Community School, Glenties.

Orna Murphy from Ursuline College, Sligo won silver in the girls long jump – while Francis Donoghue from Summerhill College in Sligo took bronze in the boys 1500m.

There was bronze too for another Summerhill student, Rosses Point’s Sean McCabe in the boys long jump.
