A Leitrim County Councillor has given a cautious welcome to the census population growth figures for Leitrim.
The county experienced the biggest population increase in the North West since the 2016 census with a 9.5% rise over the last six years.
Fine Gael Cllr for the Manorhamilton Municipal District Sean McDermott says these are early statistics and believes that when fully analysed, will show that many rural areas continue to suffer population decline.
Cllr McDermott says the overall picture is positive, there needs to be focus on the weaker areas of Leitrim and has been outlining what needs to be done:
