Josh Moffett wins Donegal International Rally 2022

Josh Moffett won the 2022 Joule Donegal International Rally at the end of a dramatic final day, which saw the lead change hands on multiple occasions.

The Monaghan man finished 46.7 seconds ahead of his elder brother Sam, who is a two-time winner of the event (2013 & 2019).

Long-time leader Callum Devine crashed out on the first of Sundays six special stages after hitting a bale at a chicane which broke a radiator and forced him to retire.

The man who had been chasing him hard all weekend, British Rally Championship winner Matt Edwards, took over the lead, only to then make an error on the Atlantic Drive stage, which ended his rally.

At one point, just one second separated Moffett from Alistair Fisher in second place, but he lost time over the final two stages, eventually finishing fifth, which enabled Moffett to take the title ahead of his brother.

Declan Boyle was the leading local finisher in fourth place – while Donegal Town’s David Kelly had a highly encouraging Rally, finishing eighth overall.

Kevin Gallagher was a deserved winner of the National Class.
