Local TD raises northwest farmers concerns over agri fuel costs

A Sligo Leitrim TD raised concerns which were aired at a local IFA meeting this week in relation to the raising cost associated with agricultural production.

Deputy Martin Kenny welcomed the news that the prices for sheep and cattle are on the raise.

However he warned that that the cost of agricultural materials is still at an unsustainable level.

The Sinn Fein TD says the governments response to help farmers does not go far enough with the growing pressure on the agri sector to increase food production not viable.

Deputy Kenny insists that Irish farmers are prepared to meet these demands of food production, but that they need a break when it comes to input costs.

Speaking on behalf of the government Minster of state Damien English acknowledged the concern of farmers s and acknowledged that the governments need to protect the sector.
