Donegal International Rally makes emotional return on 50th anniversary



The 2022 Joule Donegal International Rally returns to the highways and byways of county Donegal this weekend with star-studded line-up of entries for the an event which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

The Rally returns after a two-year pandemic-enforced absence – and the last edition of the event was cut short in 2019 following the tragic death of local competitor and three-time rally winner Manus Kelly.

The entry list of 161 drivers includes the cream of the crop with the Donegal rally also being round five of the Irish Tarmac Championship, which several of the countries leading drivers will be trying to win this weekend.

The field includes 2019 winner Sam Moffett, Welsh driver Matt Edwards as well as household rally names such as Callum Devine, Alistair Fisher Garry Jennings and Jonny Greer

The rally begins this Thursday evening with the ceremonial start in Letterkenny – before six stages on Friday, eight stages on Saturday, and the concluding six stages on Sunday.

Ocean FM Sport will broadcast a one-hour preview programme this Thursday, June 16th, on ‘The Final Whistle’ from 8-9pm – with three-time Donegal international rally winner Eugene Donnelly as our studio guest.
