Border Communities against Brexit fear ongoing speculation around protocol is stirring tensions

A representative from the ‘Border Communities against Brexit’ says the events surrounding the possibility of Boris Johnston scrapping parts of the Northern Ireland Protocol is continuing to cause extensive damage to businesses both in Northern Ireland and in the Republic.

The Foreign Affairs Minister has said today that no-one in the EU believes the UK is serious about negotiating a solution to issues with the Northern Ireland Protocol.

There’s uncertainty over when the British government will publish legislation which will allow the UK government to scrap parts of the deal agreed with the EU either now or in the future.

Damien McGenity says this uncertainty coupled with the events surrounding the circulation of a video where a group of men were recorded  singing a song mocking the 2011 murder of Michaela McAreavey is adding to the tensions between the nationalist and unionist communities.
