Sligo-Leitrim & Donegal make winning starts to Gaynor Cup



The Sligo-Leitrim and Donegal girls under-14 representative soccer teams have made winning starts to the 2022 Gaynor Cup, which is being hosted by University of Limerick this week.

Both north-west teams are in a five-team Group 3 – and Sligo-Leitrim (pictured) began their campaign on Tuesday with a 3-1 win against Carlow.

Donegal were 3-0 winners over Inishowen – with the goals coming Sarah McGuinness, Sarah Colhoun and Aisling Moogan

The two winners will meet each other in the group stages on Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday morning, Donegal made it two wins from two with a 1-0 victory against Carlow. Wexford and Inishowen drew nil-all. Sligo-Leitrim had the morning off.

The Gaynor Cup is one of the country’s most prestigious underage national competitions each year.

25 inter-league teams are competing in this year’s competition, which continues all this week in Limerick, with the finals scheduled for Saturday.
