An urgent meeting is being sought by Donegal County Councillors with Bus Eireann management over the cancellation of a number of its services between Donegal Town and Dublin.
Bus Éireann has expressed ‘regret’ at some cancellations but didn’t give a reason for the decision.
Bus Eireann has stated that all services are operating as normal
Donegal Sinn Fein Cllr Noel Jordon had previously met with Bus Eireann last year over similar issues.
Cllr Jordon has described the situation as totally unacceptable and says a serious discussion needs to be had to tease out the problems:
A statement from Bus Eireann today reads:
All scheduled services in Donegal operated over the weekend (Saturday/Sunday/Monday) as per timetable apart from the Route 491 (Letterkenny – Ballybofey) local service, which was cancelled on Saturday morning due to operational issues.
A notice was placed on social media that some Route 30 services were due to be cancelled over the weekend, however due to local efforts by the Bus Éireann staff in Donegal, they were able to avert these cancellations and as a result all of these services operated.
Today (08/06/2022) all services on the Route 30 are operating normally.
Unfortunately yesterday Bus Eireann had to cancel one return trip on the Route 30, the 17:30 Donegal/Dublin service and the 23:00 Dublin/Donegal service due to staff absenteeism and unfortunately they were unable to avail of a contractor for these services due to the short notice.
Bus Eireann apologises to customers impacted by this cancellation and whilst they are committed to operating all services advertised, when as a last resort they have no alternative to cancel a service, they endeavour to keep their customers fully informed including placing a notice on their website and all customers who have pre-booked seats are notified of the cancellation by email.
