Updated: N15 reopened to traffic following fatal collision

The N15 has reopened to traffic this evening following yesterday’s fatal Road Traffic Collision which claimed the lives of two men in their 70s

The men died in the three colission which occured between Sligo and Drumcliff.

Gardaí have confirmed to OceanFM news that the road has reopened to traffic inside the last few minutes.

After a tragic weekend locally and nationally on the roads, the Road Safety Authority has renewed its appeal for road users to take extra care for the remainder of the June Bank Holiday Weekend.

Gardaí have described the number of fatalities on the roads this year as ‘worrying.’

Seven people have died in crashes since Thursday, the most recent of those in Limerick in the early hours of this morning.

The most recent death occurred in the early hours of this morning after a man in his 20s died following a single-vehicle accident in Ballyneety, Co Limerick.

Three of the deaths recorded over the weekend were motorcyclists which brings to 17 the number of bikers killed to date on the road in 2022.

As the bank holiday weekend draws to a conclusion and more traffic takes to the roads motorists are being warned to expect walkers, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

The RSA is urging drivers to slow down, look out for vulnerable road users, and don’t forget to take breaks on their journey to avoid falling asleep at the wheel.
