
Sligo minor hurlers captured the Al-Ireland under-17 Celtic Challenge title at Markievicz Park on Saturday with a spirited 1-11 to 2-7 victory over Mayo in the a tense and dramatic final.
The one-point winning margin saw sligo lift the Micheal Feery Cup to great scenes of celebration.
Sligo looked the better team in the first half and deservedly led by 1-7 to 1-3 at the interval with Drumcliffe/Rosses Point’s Donnchadh O’Brien scoring the Sligo goal.
Mayo upted the ante in the second-half and push the home side all the way, which made for a frantic finale.
However, Martin Feeney’s side held on to win by one and take the title.
