Fine Gael call for a more comprehensive applications process for postal ballots

The Fine Gael parliamentary Party have issued a statement in response to the DPP’s decision to not to prosecute anybody in relation to alleged postal voting fraud in Sligo.

The statement issued by the Party’s head office acknowledged the investigation established that there were significant irregularities in the postal voting process but were unable to establish who was behind it.

The statement went on to say that this incident highlighted a number of significant weaknesses in the processes around verification of postal ballots.

Fine Gael has called for this to be dealt with administratively when applications for postal ballots are made.

They are calling that all applications are valid and are being made by the people claimed to be making them.

Finally they are calling for all certificates provided to be extensively examined.
