A discussion is needed on whether members of the Gardai should be armed, accoring to Ray Wims of the Garda Representative Association in Sligo-Leitrim. Mr Wims told this week’s GRA conference that the job was becoming more dangerous, and outlined cases where Gardai were waiting hours for armed back-up in emergency situations
