Co Sligo’s Sean McLoughlin makes strong start to Irish Amateur Open

Co Sligo golfer Sean McLoughlin is tied for 2nd place after the opening day’s play at the 2022 Flogas Irish Amateur Open at the Island Golf Club in Dublin.

McLoughlin carded an opening round of two-under-par 70 to sit just one shot behind the round one leader Matthew Wilson from Scotland, who’s on -3.

Alongside the Sligo man at -2 are this year’s West of Ireland champion Alan Fahy (Bray), the player he beat in this year’s final, Liam Nolan (Galway), and Ballybofey & Stranorlar’s Ryan Griffin.

Another local Sean Flanagan, who currently plays out of Portmarnock, bogeyed the 18th to post a 73 (+1).

Co Sligo teenager Aodhagan Brady was -3 at one stage during his round, but he eventually carded a 74 for +2.

Defending champion Peter O’Keeffe (Douglas) is also at +2.

TJ Ford posted a three-over-par round of 75.
