Sligo Councillor claims the prospect of gold mining in Leitrim could also impact other counties



A Sligo Councillor is warning that the recent decision taken by the Minister for the Environment, Eamon Ryan, to issue prospecting licences to mining company Flintridge Resources for 47 townlands in north Leitrim could have a negative impact on Sligo.

 

Cllr Thomas Healy has tabled a motion on the issue which will be debated at today’s monthly meeting of the local authority.

 

The Sligo Drumcliff Councillor says It is important that Sligo supports Leitrim in similar way that they backed the anti- fracking campaign in the past.

 

He says that with the proposed location of the mining in Leitrim is close to Sligo and as a result there could could be

consequences for neighbouring counties including Sligo.
