Donegal Bay Rowing Club duo to compete at World Championships



Two members of the Donegal Bay Rowing Club have qualified to represent Ireland at the World Beach Sprint Championships in Wales later this year.

Meabh McNamara and Grace Masterson, who are both students at the Abbey Vocational School in Donegal Town, won the U18 double beach sprint at the Irish Beach Sprints Qualifers at Duneen Bay in county Cork.

Meabh also won the u18 Girls Singles Beach Sprint event.

This will be the second time in successive years that Donegal Bay Rowing Club rowers have athletes representing Ireland on the world stage.

Previously, Luke Keaney and Rosy Temple qualified and excelled at recent World and European Championships.

Keaney, along Patrick Brady and Seamus Maguire mentor the girls at the club.

Both teenagers have also qualified for the European Championships in Spain and the Home internationals in Scotland, which take place later in the season.
