Below par Sligo Rovers lose to Shelbourne

Sligo Rovers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Shelbourne in Friday night’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game at Tolka Park.

First-half goals from Jack Moylan and Sean Boyd gave Damien Duff’s side a deserved 2-0 half-time lead.

Paddy Kirk gave Rovers hope in the second-half with a fine individual finish from inside the penalty area to make it 2-1.

But Liam Buckley’s side were unable to find an equaliser as Shels held on for the three points.

Elsewhere, on the day that Shamrock Rovers manager Stephen Bradley confirmed he had turned down the chance to manage English League 1 side Lincoln City, he watched his team beat Ollie Horgan’s Finn Harps 3-1 at Tallaght Stadium – to close the gap on leaders Derry City to a single point.

Sligo Rovers go to Tallaght this Monday night – game which will be broadcast live by Ocean FM Sport, in association with EJ Menswear.

Friday night’s results
Shelbourne 2 Sligo Rovers 1
Shamrock Rovers 3 Finn Harps 1
Derry City 1 Bohemians 1
Drogheda Utd 0 St Pat’s 4
UCD 2 Dundalk 2.
