Leitrim Councillor Fears complex rules around insulation criteria is a major cause for low take up

A Leitrim councillor has expressed concern over the complex nature of securing funding for insulation projects.

Homeowners are being encouraged to make more use of insulation in order to reduce their reliance on solid fuels.

A 2020 report from the EPA found approximately 1,300 premature deaths in Ireland every year can be attributed to poor air quality as a result there is  now a greater emphasis on more efficient insulation in homes.

Sinn Féin Councillor Padraig Fallon says the process for securing funding is ‘complex’ at present and even when the grants are secured there is still a substantial balance for homeowners to make up.
