Donegal hotelier issues warning over imminent VAT hike



There’s a warning that a new found momentum in the North West hospitality industry could be thrown into jeopardy should the Government increase VAT rates in September.

 

The comments were made by Chairman of the Donegal branch of the Irish Hotels Federation Paul Diver who is also the owner of the Sandhouse Hotel in Rossnowlagh.

 

Mr Diver has described the May Bank Holiday as a bumper weekend with a high number of visitors to the region and is hopeful that it has set a trend for the summer months.

 

While acknowledging the Government supports during the Covid crisis, Mr Diver says maintaining that VAT rate at 9% is critical in maintaining their recovery:
