Sligo secure hat-trick of rugby silverware

Sligo Rugby Club secured three underage boys rugby titles across the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The club’s Under 13s started the weekend’s success with a 22-0 victory over Galwegians in Ballyhaunis in the plate final on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, both the Under 15s and the Under 17s travelled to The Sportsground in Galway. Incidentally; both teams faced Buccaneers in their respective cup finals.

Roger Burrows’ Under 15s produced a dominant display at the College Road venue and defeated their Athlone-based opponents by 21 points to 8 to lift the Connacht U15 cup final.

Sligo’s Under 17s kicked off just under an hour after their Under 15 clubmates had lifted the cup and brought their own piece of silverware back to Hamilton Park.

A strong first half by Sligo in which they scored 15 points to Buccaneers’ zero provided the platform to victory.

Despite their opponents scoring ten second half points, Sligo kicked a penalty to secure and 18 points to 10 victory and a third piece of silverware to place in the Hamilton Park trophy cabinet in two days.
