Five instances of unsafe pesticide levels in regions drinking water last year

There were five instances of pesticides exceeding safe levels in drinking water supplies across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal in 2021.

This is an overall reduction compared to 2020 where nine incidents were reported.

The impacted areas in the region were the River Eske supply in Co. Donegal, Kilsellagh in Co. Sligo and the South Leitrim Regional public drinking water supply with the River Shannon being it’s source.

Landowners are being encouraged to reduce the use of pesticides in general and question whether it is necessary at all.
