BREAKING NEWS – Female pedestrian killed in Castle Street collision- victim in her early 70’s



A female pedestrian was killed in road traffic collision at Castle Street in Sligo earlier today, it’s been confirmed.

The woman, who was in her early seventies, was pronounced dead at the scene.  A male pedestrian sustained non life-threatening injuries in the incident, and was taken to Sligo University Hospital.

The collision involving the pedestrians and a car occurred at 4pm today at the junction of Castle Street and Market Street.

The car ended up crashing into a shop premises on Castle Street.

Gardai remain at the scene of the accident this evening. Castle Street and Market Street are currently closed and a technical examination is being conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the Castle Street or Market Street areas between 4pm and 4.15pm are asked to make the footage available to Gardaí.

Garda have also appealed to the public who have mobile phone camera footage of the scene not to further share it if they come across it, out of respect for the family of the deceased.
