Leitrim Hurlers fall to Farney defeat

Leitrim’s Senior Hurlers suffered their first defeat of this year’s Lory Meagher Cup following a five-point defeat to Monaghan at Avant Money Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada on Sunday afternoon.

Following victories over Longford in Round One and a victory in Round Two over Cavan, Olcan Conway’s lead looked to maintain their 100% record.

The Farney County held a two-point lead at the interval with Mark Treanor raising the green flag.

Leitrim corner forward Joe Murray got a goal of his own eight minutes into the second half.

Both sides traded points before Monaghan found the back of the net on 61 minutes through centre half-forward Conor Gernon.

Leitrim got within three points of their opponents before Treanor scored the last of his eight points from a free and substitute Ciaran Guinan stretched the margin to five.

2019 Lory Meagher Cup champions Leitrim will look to return winning ways in their next fixture with Lancashire on Saturday, May 7th.

After the game, Leitrim manager Olcan Conway spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s PJ Leddy:
