Sligo and Leitrim prepare for Connacht Minor Championship



The Connacht Minor Football Championship begins this weekend with Sligo receiving a bye for the first round while Leitrim facing an away fixture.

The competition, which is played in a round robin basis with results deciding who qualifies for the provincial semi-finals at the end of May.

Sligo, managed by David Caffrey begin their campaign with a home game against Galway on April 29th.

The 2022 Sligo minor panel includes seven of last year’s historic Connacht Championship winning squad such as St. Mary’s’ Ronan Niland and Owenmore Gaels clubman Dillon Walsh, both of whom started the five-point victory Roscommon in the final.

Leitrim travel to James Stephens Park in Ballina to take on Mayo in Round One. Throw-in is at 7pm.

Adrian Dockery’s side’s first home game is against Roscommon on Friday, May 6th in Carrick-On-Shannon.

Some survivors of last year’s Leitrim Minor panel include goalkeeper Shaun Sheridan of Glencar/ Manorhamilton and St. Mary’s Kiltoghert clubman Ben Guckian.
