A local TD is calling on the Garda Commissioner to establish a specialised Garda operation to target illegal loan sharks operating in communities across the North West.
There are reports of an increase in the number of unofficial reports of assaults and aggravated burglaries occurring as a result of families falling victim to unregulated illegal loan sharks.
it’s also thought that communities are afraid to make official reports to Gardaí for fear of the consequences.
With the cost of living increasing many families are struggling, and have turned to illegal money-lenders.
