Leitrim lose to Mayo in Connacht minor championship opener



There was disappointment for Leitrim in Friday night’s opening game of the 2022 boys Connacht minor football championship when they were soundly beaten by Mayo in Ballina on a final scoreline of 2-16 to 0-6.

Leitrim trailed by 0-9 to 0-2 and were unable to make a meaningful impact to change the trend of the game in the second-half.

In the night’s other fixture, Galway were 3-19 to 1-12 winners over Roscommon in Tuam.

The Connacht minor championship is being played on a round-robin basis this year, with holders Sligo getting a bye in the opening round.

David Caffrey’s side will begin their provincial title defence against Galway next Friday, April 29th, in Markeivicz Park at 7pm.
