Councillor wants Minister to give date for provision of abortion services in Sligo

A Sligo councillor says the lack of abortion services in the county is now going on for too long, four years after a majority voted in a referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment.

Solidarity People Before Profit Councillor O Boyle says because of this women still have to leave the county to get an abortion.

At this month’s meeting of Sligo County Council, the council agreed to a motion from Cllr O Boyle calling on the Minister for Health to give a date for when abortion services will be made available in Sligo.

He says waiting for the HSE and GPs to provide the service is not an option anymore.
