Sligo women’s under-18 rugby team are celebrating a Connacht Cup title following Sunday’s 20-17 victory over Creggs in the final at the Sportsground in Galway.
The win capped a remarkable few weeks for women’s rugby at Hamilton Park in recent weeks with three club underage teams at U18, U16 and U14 level all reaching provincial cup deciders.
The Sligo under-16 girls lost out 41-12 to Ballina while the Sligo under-14s were beaten 24-10 by Ougherard.
Nonetheless the presence of three club teams in Connacht Cup finals illustrates the upward curve of the female game at Sligo.
Sunday’s win for the under-18 side sparked terrific celebrations.
The club has more Connacht finals to look forward to on Sunday, May 1st, when the boys under-17 and under-15 teams contest provincial deciders.
