Kieran Christie lays out ASTI stance on teachers assessing their students

The former Sligo secondary school teacher who’s now general secretary of the ASTI says students should be assessed externally for the Leaving Certificate exam.

The ASTI was reacting to the Education Minister Norma Foley’s plans for reform which would see teachers assess their own pupils.

They would have to mark up to 40 per cent of grades, with less reliance on the final examinations.

Kieran Christie, a former teacher in St. Attracta’s Community School in Tubbercurry, had this reaction to what’s being proposed.
