€722,000 for Donegal Airport, €4.8m for Ireland West



Donegal and Ireland West (Knock) are among five airports to benefit from more than €16m in capital funding.

Donegal Airport is to get more than €722,000 while Ireland West Airport will receive almost €4.8m.

Making the announcement, Minister of State at the Department of Transport Hildegarde Naughton who said the money will be used to bolster safety and security at relevant airports.

At Ireland West Airport, the funding will support a major upgrade of the airports electrical infrastructure across the entire airport campus, construction of a new Fire Training Centre, purchase of new fire tender vehicle, runway end safety area upgrades.

Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey said the allocation for Ireland West Airport was ‘great news for south Sligo and the western counties.’

Minister of State and Sligo/Leitrim TD Frank Feighan says the money is coming after a tough time for airports and the aviation industry.
